2020 AGM Postponed

It doubtless comes as no surprise that Transport Action Atlantic’s annual general meeting – scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at the Lions Community Centre in Moncton – has been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Normally, the AGM should be held within six months of the end of our fiscal year. This postponement is an extraordinary measure under very abnormal circumstances, and should not be regarded as a precedent.

The agenda would have included election of a board of directors for 2020-21. Your executive is recommending that the current board remain in place until a rescheduled AGM can be held. As there is considerable uncertainty as to when restrictions on travel and public gatherings will be eased, no revised meeting date has been set at this time, but it is proposed that the AGM be held to coincide with TAA’s fall board meeting, tentatively in October. Please watch this website and/or your preferred social media platform for updates.

Meanwhile, please remember that any current member of Transport Action Atlantic may nominate (with their consent) any other member in good standing for a position on the board. There are several existing vacancies. It is the board’s responsibility to choose the executive officers. Nominations should be made in advance of the meeting, and may be submitted by mail to the TAA Nominating Committee, P.O.Box 268, Dartmouth NS B2Y 3Y3, or by e-mail to donlinmacleod@ns.sympatico.ca.

TAA’s 2019 AGM is this Saturday!

Transport Action Atlantic’s annual general meeting is happening this Saturday in Halifax!

Saturday May 11 – 2:00pm

Halifax North Memorial Library Auditorium

2285 Gottingen St.

Halifax, NS

We are delighted to announce that the AGM agenda will include a panel discussion on current transportation issues in the region, featuring Bridgewater mayor David Mitchell, Maritime Bus president Mike Cassidy, and 2018 John Pearce Award winner Stan Choptiany. This promises to be an interesting and engaging discussion – you won’t want to miss it!

As always, the agenda will also include annual reports and financial statements, appointment of an auditor, election of a board of directors, and any other business that may arise.

Further, we will be presenting the third annual John Pearce Award recognizing outstanding public transportation advocacy.

And finally, we are also pleased to welcome noted railway photographer and author Bill Linley, who will be signing copies of his new book “Trackside Newfoundland”. This will be a great opportunity to meet and chat with Bill, as well as to pick up a copy of his book if you haven’t already. http://www.billlinley.com/products-page/books/trackside-newfoundland/

As always, our AGM is open to the general public and the media. Invite your friends!

We hope to see many of you there!
